01 - THE ENCOUNTER

A collaboration born from a Franco-Sri Lankan history.

After living through the 2004 tsunami at the age of 14, Ishan met a group of French doctors at a centre helping victims. One of them would go on to help fund his studies in India, before Ishan continued his journey in France.

Years later, this story between two cultures became the starting point for an artistic collaboration with Atelier LouiseM.

02 - BRIEF

Posters that are truly part of the place.

Maison Samara wanted to personalise its spaces with artworks able to tell its story, rather than adding generic decoration. The goal: to create a collection deeply rooted in Sri Lanka and in the house's identity, punctuated with a few subtle nods to its founder's French-Sri Lankan story.

04 - TWO CULTURES, ONE HISTORY

A French touch, never erasing the Sri Lankan soul.

Woven throughout the illustrations are also small nods to France. Discreet details, imagined as an echo of Ishan's journey and the particular bond linking his personal story to both countries.

The artistic direction rests on this balance: bringing LouiseM's eye and sensibility, while letting Sri Lanka remain at the heart of every piece.

05 - THE RESULT

Works made for this place, and no other.

Rendered as framed posters throughout Maison Samara's spaces, the illustrations come together into a cohesive, instantly recognisable world.

More than decoration, they tell a story: the story of a house, a country, and a journey between two cultures.

"

Collaborating with Cécile to decorate part of our gallery was a truly inspiring experience. Her authentic, artistic eye brought great sensitivity to the project, perfectly attuned to the cultural richness of Sri Lanka, while elegantly weaving in a French touch. The result is particularly meaningful to us, as it does not impose a foreign style: it respects the soul of the place, its heritage and its history.

We are very happy with the result.
